Hi all. Here we go. (FINAL update 22/08/2003 )
Page dedicated for Matshita (aka Matsushita) UJDA 710 COMBO Drive (CD-Rom/R/RW, DVD-ROM). How far i know this drive is made by Panasonic. FIC and others companies don't make their own Drives so they buy them from other companies.
I bought this laptop 1 and half year ago in England (London) in company called Tiny. At this moment it was latest laptop in the store. Later i found that it was made in Taiwan by FIC PCG Inc (http://pcg.fic.com.tw). All specs U can find in its page or http://pcg.fic.com.tw/A360/A360spec.htm. Its A360, not A360+. Or maybe A360+ Now i donno which one is. I'm confused. Coz on back of the drive says that is + but when i disassembled it there inside says that is just A360. With Sandra i found that is FCPGA (otherwise A360). Now which is the difference between them?
Here (http://pcg.fic.com.tw/A360/A360Win98.htm) i found that with jumper setting i can change CD-ROM to Master or Slave. Didn't checked it yet but mine is Secondary Master by IdeDiag.

Tried to enable DMA in CD-ROM by setting Using "DMA if Available" option but after reboot is still using PIO mode.
After something about 6 month using it started to read not some CD's (doesn't recognize them, says that CD-ROM is empty) and can only burn at 4x (it's 8x6x24x). Just today i burned one at 8x. When burning finished it said that burned has failed. But after reboot machine can read this CD. Not before rebooting. Tried to clean lens few times, it helped but still unable to read some CD's and every time it get worst.
Didn't tried to see DVD yet, either to RPC1 it :P but wont to. In best page of Firmware's (http://forum.rpc1.org) didn't find any firmware for FIC but tried to Dump flash to floppy with mpatch.exe found in same page. Here is it called FC_100M.710. Asked to FIC to supply me with newer firmware but is useless, they keep saying "it's not our problem!".
Update(Last Update 26/08/2003):
Hi all again. Good news. Thanks to mpatch.exe (v1.12b) (obviously to >NIL: too) i made my drive RPC1. Just used it and it done all the work without any trouble. It work perfectly. Without any hangs (mayb one time when it was doing flash (can't remember weel where it was) it looked like it hanged up but after waiting 30 sec it continued) and any errors. BIG THANKS for this so hard work for >NIL: from me.
Didn't tried any DVD yet. Didn't reinstalled my OS. Didn't tried to Write or Rewrite any CD. So in next update I'll tell ya. Here we go with some Info.

I thought that LOG file which was made by mpatch.exe when all the work was done will be saved to Floppy. I restarted machine and when logged in WinXP found that it wasn't there so sorry about if it's useful to someone. The Dump of new RPC1 flash is found HERE.
Strange thing, Windows XP says that it's just 2 changes left and None region is selected yet (once again i didn't reinstalled Win) and Location of the drive is 0(0) as HDD. Can't remember how it was before flashing, but IDEDIAG v0.5 still showing it on Secondary Master place.
Now i wont that COMBO Drive work better than it doing. I think with newer firmware Will be fine. So will be looking for it. If u have any idea where to get it please email me. One thing more: How can i enable DMA on COMBO Drive? I set-ed option to Use DMA when available but it's still on PIO mode.
Update (29/08/2003)
My risky experience patching FIC's laptop w/
Matshita UJDA 710 Combo Drive FW 1.0 RPC1 to FW 1.5 RPC1 (from someone's
Firmware :)
All experiment described here done by Insane (MaD MaX) person. Don't do that in
your home (if u can live without it) or u can damage your Hardware. Don't blame
me then. :)
I was very tired of comportment of my Drive. It wasn't burning and reading most
of CD's, and Yes i tried to clean lens but it's no luck (comment: no with
cleaning lens CD cos it's doing damage to lens (as i read in most forums) but
with the Alcohol. I know it must be another type of alcohol. Not the medical one
but Poliheti......... or something like that one. I'm using this drive for about
1 and half year. Didn't tried to see DVD's but i have nothing to do during night
so i tried to make it RPC1. Read www.rpc1.com page for first time in September
of past year. And there wasn't any firmware available so i dropped that. Now in
august read it again i tried to patch the drive. (all info about how i did that
is on http://makc.host.sk/UJDA/index.htm and on http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=17184)
But this wasn't my finish. So i started to try another firmwares for Upgrade my
drives firmware from FW 1.0 to 1.5 or something better. I looked in the Inet for
update for FIC's matshita but its no luck. So i decided to try someone else's
firmware. With no info about how to do that i read bit of RPC1 forum. Found few
firmware's from other people, bit of info how to do that and started to try.
Firstly i get mpathc.exe from RPC1 page (v1.12b) and with manual option tried "drvloadc.exe
/?"
2 "drvloadc /M c:\utt_150.710" from ujda710_150_RPC2.zip ripped by Alcahest. But
drloadc hanged up showing only 2 first lines:
************************************************************
ATAPI DVD-ROM & CD-R/RW Program Loader - Version 2.54
(C) Copyright 1995-2001 KYUSHU MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC CO.,LTD.
************************************************************
So i restarted my PC, then tried step 2 but with /SM, same result.
Copied drvloadc to c: (d: is Ram drive from where i was running drvloadc and C:
is my FAT partition) and started it from there "drvloadc /M (and later with /SM)
UTT_150.710" it hang's instantaneously without showing first 2 lines.
In my computer sometimes happens that when i'm working in pure DOS sometimes in
freezes in some of DOS versions. Cant remember in which one. So i tried to boot
from CD with v6.0 , 7.2, Win 98's version and there is no results. it just
freezes when just pressed enter. So i copied all RAM drive to c: thinking that
maybe some other archive is used by drvloadc (later i read "Relevant Device
could not be accessed" threat), executed from there with different version's of
DOS but with /SM option, always hanged at first 2 lines stage.
I tried to unplug completely my PC from battery and power like someone said in
this forum, no luck.
Then i thought that maybe when i write drvloadc it execute first from RAM Drive
so i deleted them from ram and tried, result: 2 lines freeze.
Downloaded DRVLOADC2.EXE file tried with it and there was same results (both
drvloadc and drvloadc2 are v2.54).
So i tried to patch it with TTX150_710.zip can't remeber where i got it but it
worked with /SM option from RamDrive. But doing dvrloadc.exe (from mpatch.exe
v1.12b) /M TTX150.710 (both in Ram Drive) get this error:
"Select Interface: Secondary Master
Error: Loader Cannot start
Error: Not Ready (02h) / medium not present (3Ah:00h)"
Later i found that it was clean CD-RW inserted in
Drive when i was patching. ;) UUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuPPPPPssssssssss.
Restarted. Without reinstalling Windows XP Pro SP1, OS detected NEW UJDA710
drive and it's still working till now. without any notorious improvement, still
can't burn and read most CD's, donno about DVD's)
One change till now. Drive is now in DMA on. Before it was with DMA
disabled. (01/09/2003 WHAT THE SHIT. TODAY I FOUND THAT
DMA IS OFF AGAIN, WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING. Still able to burn at 8
(before was just 4x). Help with this f*ckin' problem)
Will se later what improvement be with reinstalling OS.
Note: My Drive is Adapter 3 becouse i have 2 virtual devices. IDEDIAG still showing it on Secondary Master position. Still thinking that in this laptop it's mater of jumpers (can be found http://pcg.fic.com.tw/A360/A360Win98.htm in the midle).

FW used to
patch. (RPC1/TTX150_710.zip) Got it from
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/alcahest/perso/TTX150_710.zip thanks to
TheShadowRunner. (http://forum.rpc1.org/printview.php?t=9859&start=75)
FW after patching. (RPC1/TT_150M.710.rar) I think it must be same, But ........ Now mpatch.exe
called it TT_150M.710 before it was FC_100M.710
Thanks to all. Don't do that in your home.
Update (09/03/2003)
It seems like it's DMA is no problem of Upgrade. As i can remember DMA was allways ON from first instalation of WinXP (before upgrade). When DMA was OFF last time (see above) i tried to uninstall Matshita Drive, Virtual Drive and Secondary IDE Chanel. After reboot OS found all devices. DMA was ON on COMBO Drive.
Installed WinXP on another partition with Nero 6.0.0.9. Once again no luck with burning RW's (Verbatium 4x RW's and another once from pack with Samsung CDRW drive (for testing purpose)). But can burn them on Asus 52x-24x-52x. On this drive still can burn anther CD-R's.

I'm tired of this drive. Maybe it's too old. But i didn't give him lot of work. Making such a problem of this because have no money to reemplace it. Cleaned it often. So it's no problem of lens.
Well. CU people.
Hope it's helps to someone other than me. Sorry my English. Bye people. Hasta la vista BABY. }:o)
